When people talk about the 'Golden Age of Steam', they are usually referring to the advances that made rail travel popular, but the use of steam as a mode of propelling boats preceded its use on the railways by some decades. The technology was developed almost simultaneously in France, Scotland and the United States in the late 18th Century, with a raft of inventors trialling different ways to make steam boats efficient as passenger vehicles, freight ships and even warships.
 
Perhaps this is why steam boats evoke such an air of nostalgia - just seeing one is enough to make any boating enthusiast want to take to the water. This trip is a chance to enjoy stunning scenery, an exquisite cream tea and have the chance to explore the beautifully-appointed vessel as it carries its passengers through the grounds of Windsor Castle.

This experience is a chance to experience what life on the water was like centuries ago, in a boat that has stood the test of time. Guests are welcomed aboard the genuine Victorian steam vessel for a 2.5-hour cruise which departs from Windsor promenade at 3 pm, just in time to enjoy a something to eat.

As the beautiful scenery slips past, guests will be served a cream tea which will make them feel like royalty, comprising a range of deep-filled sandwiches, tea cakes, tarts, shortbread fingers and freshly prepared scones with butter, clotted cream and an array of preserves. These are all accompanied by a selection of teas and coffees.

The boat will drift gently downstream towards Windsor Castle, with background music playing throughout the cruise and live commentary as the boat passes sights of special interest. With factual and historical insights into the royal residence and the surrounding area.
