Past and Present of Mauritius - History and Shopping

Soak up the island's rich trading history and discover part of what has forged Mauritius today, before hopefully bagging a few bargains of your own at the central market!

This trail will take you to the northern part of the island. First stop is at the Botanical Gardens of Pamplemousses, one of the most beautiful and most ancient botanical gardens in the world.

Next stop is L'Aventura du Sucre, an old sugar factory now converted into an interactive museum, which reveals the history of sugar cane that has influenced the country's culture and identity as a whole.

Moving closer to the capital, you will visit La Citadelle, once a military fort, built in the early 19th century, which offers impressive views of Port Louis.

Finally you can enjoy a shopping experience at the Caudan Waterfront where some of the tempting boutiques will end your day in style.

  • Available Fridays until 30th September 2017 however after this the new operational day is Thursday.
  • Departure Time: Between 8:30am - 9am.
  • Departure Point: Hotel pick-up (from all over the island).
  • Tour Duration: Approximately 8.5 hours.
  • Excluded: Food and drinks.

This excursion is not recommended for those with walking difficulties.
